Farstorps Gård -a part of MP bolagen
Presentation video MP bolagen agriculture
In 1968, Werner von Seydlitz bought Farstorp's farm located in Nye. a couple of miles outside Vetlanda. Agriculture was close to his heart and even today the farm is run under the auspices of the MP bolagen.
Here we get to meet Lisa. who tells us how it is to work at the farm.
Farstorp's farm
The farm is located approximately 20 km east of Vetlanda and is currently a efficiently operated agricultural and forestry farm, focused on dairy and meat production.
The barn has loose housing and a modern feeding facility for silage and hay, with computerized feed allocation. A well-equipped workshop and machinery hall enable a manager and three individuals to handle the agricultural operations.
- Total areal: 720 hectares
- Agricultural land: 170 hectares
Dairy and meatproduction
The livestock consists of approximately 250 animals, out of which 100-120 are milk-producing. Milk production amounts to about 10000 kg per cow and year. The dairy cattle herd is SRB. In total, approximately 1,100,000 kilograms of milk are produced per year.
Contrary to what many believe, milk production involves a significant amount of technology. Modern agriculture employs advanced technology to streamline the process, monitor animal health, and create a more sustainable production environment. Technology plays a crucial role in striking a balance between efficiency and care for both the animals and the environment.
The proportion of forest at Farstorp farm is 520 hectares of productive woodland. It is predominantly spruce-dominated with very high fertility. The ambition level for thinning and regeneration is high to establish a strong foundation for future stands. High natural values in key biotopes and deciduous forest are preserved and cultivated in specially treated woodland.
Besides harvesting cereal crops, field chopping is also carried out. This involves chopping grass, herbs, and corn, for instance, intended for fodder. Typically, this is then compressed into round bales visible in the fields. At Farstorps Gård, there's now a silo in place of round bales, saving approximately 2000 kilograms of plastic annually. Moreover, it reduces the transportation of round bales from the field to feeding areas.
