EPD-gives full control of environmental performance
Our environmental product declarations are based on real input and most of them are verified by third parties party. They show the products environmental performance throughout the lifespan – from material extraction to demolition of a property. In addition, supports the requirements for green procurement and environmental certification systems such as LEED, Environmental construction and BREEAM.
We have EPDs
This helps you make environmentally conscious choices when purchasing our products. Use the information to:
- Certify buildings for sustainability
- Compile decision-making materials for construction projects
- Create bids that clearly present climate data with third-party guarantees
- Meet the client’s documentation requirements
- Simplify and clarify the sustainability report
- Strengthen and detail sustainability communication.
What is an EPD?
EPD stands for Environmental Product Declaration. It is a document that reports a product’s climate and environmental impact throughout its entire lifecycle.
Material extraction, production, use, maintenance, and disposal. In short: from the extraction of the material the product is made of until it is discarded or recycled.
As a customer, you can use EPDs as a tool to calculate the total carbon footprint of a project. However, it is also an important tool for making improvements in production or identifying alternative material choices to reduce the environmental impact of a product.
How we present climate impact
We present how our products impact the climate on our website, in the configurator, and at the quote level. There, you can see the Total-GWP for our product. GWP stands for Global Warming Potential. It means the total climate impact of the product through the emission of greenhouse gases. We present the Total-GWP for A1-A3, which summarizes the carbon dioxide emissions from cradle to gate, meaning from the extraction of the raw material until the product leaves our premises. We do not have EPDs for all products. In our configurators and on our quotes, the climate impact is shown for the products for which we have a verified value.
Third-party verification
Our EPDs are verified by an independent third party: IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute. Our EPDs are available in the EPD International database. The data has been collected and managed by an independent consultant: Ramboll.
The input data consists of actual values from all stages: quantities of raw materials, waste, and consumables, as well as emissions from energy use and transportation.
Credible and Transparent
The life cycle analysis is conducted according to ISO 14040 and ISO 14044, and the entire EPD follows the EN 15804+A2 standard. Additionally, both the calculations and the EPD document are verified by an independent third party. The final document is published publicly in an open database. The standardized calculations and open reporting mean that more and more European authorities are requiring EPDs. The Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning already requires EPDs for building envelopes, but an expansion is expected within a few years. Meanwhile, EU initiatives such as the European Green Deal and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) are tightening the requirements for corporate sustainability reporting.
